On this snowy January day, I stopped by Café con Amor Jíbaro in downtown Middletown, NY, and it didn’t disappoint. From the moment you walk in, you’re stepping into a space rooted not just in hospitality but in community love.
Owner Kimberly and her younger sister worked behind the counter, taking orders, pressing sandwiches, and making coffee the way only true coffee lovers know how. Meanwhile, MamaMaria welcomes you like you just walked into her home for a cafecito chat. The warmth hits you before the first sip of your café con leche.
A Family Legacy Starting With Abuelo
Café con Amor Jíbaro started as a small food cart serving coffee and simple eats inspired by Kimberly’s grandfather — whose image is now the face of the café. His presence and Boricua pride are felt everywhere, from the recipes to the service filled with so much cariño.
Inside, you’ll find small tables, Puerto Rican flags displayed with pride, a domino table for anyone brave enough to play, and artwork created by Kim’s cousin. Every detail honors the Boricua roots and legacy that started it all.

What’s on the Menu

Not too far from the original shop on North Street, this café has a small menu, but you’ll leave with a belly full of comfort.
- Rich coffee — lattes, café con leche, espresso, cold brews, and frappes
- Pressed sandwiches on Pan Sobao and Pan de Agua
- Fresh juices
- Pastries baked with love
A Space Overflowing With Love
This shop has so much love to share beyond the food — from the family behind the counter to the pride of the island in every corner. If you’re in the Hudson Valley, stop by Café con Amor Jíbaro and give a little love back.
